From an early age, I’ve been a dreamer with an evolving vision for my future. My childhood ambitions spanned from wanting to become a doctor to envisioning myself as a teacher or even an IPS officer. These dreams were driven by fleeting moments of inspiration—whether from patriotism on Independence Day, the powerful stories in movies like Jai Gangajal, or the courtroom dramas in Adalat. I didn’t see my future as one linear path but as a journey of various, sometimes fleeting, ambitions.

Through the years, my life has been filled with twists, turns, and the pursuit of diverse interests. Professionally, I have explored multiple fields, each adding valuable experience and skill to my repertoire, while I continually adapted to new challenges and opportunities.

A Diverse Professional Journey

After completing my graduation in Journalism & Mass Communication in 2014, I initially ventured into teaching as a senior section teacher at a local school. Teaching was my passion, yet I always dreamed of working abroad. This led me to an unexpected opportunity at Dubai’s prestigious Jumeirah Group of Hotels. Though hospitality wasn’t my initial field of interest, I embraced it as an opportunity to expand my horizons.

Atoofa Khushnood with Bollywood CelebritiesWhile pursuing my degree in Journalism & Mass Communication, I was always eager to gain firsthand exposure to the media world. Attending various events became a routine for me, where I interacted with some of the most renowned names in the industry, including Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Mahesh Bhatt, Usha Utthup, Aman Yatan Verma, and Twinkle Khanna.

These experiences allowed me to understand the dynamic nature of the media industry while building unforgettable memories with these legends.

Atoofa Khushnood in Dubai at the Jumeirah BeachWhile in Dubai, I pursued an MBA in Hospitality Management from Amity University distance course to progress in my career. While I passed all the exams, personal challenges prevented me from completing the degree. Despite this, my time at Jumeirah taught me invaluable lessons in customer service, operational management, and human resources, which would later shape my entrepreneurial journey.

However, after two years in Dubai, I realized that I was trapped in the routine of a 9-to-5 corporate world. The creative spark I had was being stifled, and I knew that I wasn’t cut out for a rigid, structured path. Inspired by India’s 70th Independence Day on 15th August 2016, I made the bold decision to break free from this conventional work path. Upon returning to India, I founded La Publicité World, a digital marketing and graphic designing business. However, the name was not easily understood, so I rebranded the company to Startup Idols on 1st October 2017.

Building Startup Idols and Beyond

At Startup Idols, my mission has been to help entrepreneurs establish and grow their businesses through expert digital marketing strategies. We offer services such as SEO, social media marketing, web development, PPC, and content writing, always aiming to empower businesses with the tools they need to succeed in the digital age.

Though I also enrolled in a fashion design course at NIF Global, my focus on the business did not remain consistent, and the venture eventually closed. However, the website remains active under affiliate marketing, now run by my husband.

What remains my most fulfilling journey is the creation of Busiqueens, a group founded on 7th June 2019, to support and uplift women entrepreneurs. With the motto “Grow Stronger, Grow Together”, Busiqueens has become a thriving ecosystem for women to connect, collaborate, and celebrate each other’s successes. The annual awards night, where we honor women entrepreneurs for their contributions, has become a highlight. Being crowned at the Dress to Empress event in 2024 was a moment of immense pride, reaffirming my commitment to empowering women and contributing to their journeys.

Personal Life

Atoofa Khushnood's Childhood Photo Cropped

I was born on 25th June 1991 in Kolkata, India, into a warm and loving family where my mother, a true superwoman, played a dual role as a dedicated homemaker and an active contributor to our family’s income. She juggled various part-time activities like teaching, supporting my father in his business, and managing household responsibilities with grace and determination. Her resilience and resourcefulness were remarkable, and she became a pillar of strength and inspiration in my life. Watching her work tirelessly instilled in me the values of perseverance, creativity, and a deep commitment to family.

We lived in my maternal joint family, in a house with a big courtyard where we spent countless hours enjoying games like hide-and-seek, colorman, musical chairs, and many others. I feel privileged to have been part of what I believe was the last generation to experience such active, fun-filled childhood games. The current generation, unfortunately, hasn’t had the chance to enjoy the simplicity and pure joy that defined the 90s kids’ childhood. Growing up in a joint family taught me the value of relationships, made me a people’s person, and instilled in me a deep love for staying connected with others. It also nurtured my ability to cherish guests at home, creating a welcoming and warm environment for everyone.

What started as a casual exchange of thoughts soon blossomed into a meaningful connection built on mutual respect and understanding. After months of growing closer, we decided to begin a new chapter together and got married on 1st July 2019. The journey of marriage brought joy, challenges, and a deeper sense of partnership.

Atoofa Khushnood's trip to MalaysiaLife after marriage brought a beautiful blend of new experiences and cherished moments. A few months after tying the knot, my husband and I embarked on a memorable trip to Malaysia to celebrate our togetherness. It was a week filled with fun, thrill, and unforgettable experiences. We explored the vibrant culture, indulged in delicious cuisines, and marveled at the stunning beauty of the country. One of the highlights of our journey was visiting the breathtaking Island of Langkawi, known for its pristine beaches and thrilling water sports. However, I discovered during this trip that I had developed an unexpected hydrophobia for reasons I still don’t fully understand. My fear of water held me back from enjoying the adventurous water activities that Langkawi is famous for, making me feel like a bit of a spoilsport. Despite this, the days we spent there were incredibly special. We found joy in exploring the island’s scenic beauty, taking leisurely strolls along the beaches, and enjoying the serene sunsets together. The trip not only gave us an opportunity to unwind but also deepened our bond, reminding us that love and companionship are about embracing each other’s quirks and fears. Looking back, our Malaysia trip remains a cherished memory that marked the beginning of our adventurous journey as a married couple.

Our lives were blessed even further on 22nd May 2020, with the arrival of our daughter, Ataf Khushnood Alam. Born during the tumultuous COVID years, Ataf became our beacon of hope and joy, a “pandemic baby” who brought light and laughter into our home during those uncertain times. Now a spirited four-year-old, Ataf is a delightful mix of emotions—extra emotional, sensitive, caring, and strong-willed, with a touch of stubbornness that makes her unique. She is our “angry little lady,” filling our days with her vibrant personality and unconditional love.

Gardening has always been a passion of mine, a love I inherited from my mother and maternal family, who are deeply connected to nature and known for their creativity and intellect. My fascination with plants and nurturing life began early and has only grown stronger over the years. During my pregnancy, I faced health challenges that compelled me to take a step back from my usual activities. With the world in lockdown due to the COVID pandemic, I found solace in my balcony garden. Spending hours planting, pruning, and caring for my plants brought me immense peace and a sense of purpose during those trying times. My garden became a sanctuary where I could connect with nature and nurture life, much like my family nurtured me.

One of my lifelong dreams has been to have my own farm—a place where I can grow fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, particularly for Ataf, to ensure her nourishment comes straight from the earth. While this dream remains a work in progress, my balcony garden is a reflection of that aspiration, and it continues to bring me immense joy and fulfillment.

Throughout my life, my mom has been my best friend, a confidante, and a source of unwavering support. Her wisdom and love have guided me at every step, shaping me into the person I am today. Now, as life comes full circle, I am Ataf’s best friend, sharing the same deep bond of trust, love, and companionship that my mom once shared with me. Not just me, but my daughter also shares a very special bond with my mother, creating a beautiful connection across three generations.

Whether it’s cherishing moments in my garden, raising Ataf, or balancing the roles of a wife, mother, and entrepreneur, I find immense gratitude and fulfillment in every aspect of my journey. It is a life built on love, resilience, and the enduring bonds of family.

A Love for Writing

Atoofa Khushnood's Personal Website LinkThroughout my diverse career, one constant has been my love for writing. Inspired by my experiences in Dubai, I began working on a book titled It All Happened in Dubai. Though many of my writing projects remain unfinished due to personal reasons, writing continues to be a way for me to reflect and share my thoughts, which I now post on my personal blog, Atoofa Khushnood Diaries.
